TYLER, TEXAS GETTING SPORTS STATION
(April 20, 2009) On April 27, KDOK, FM 92.1, will change its call letters to KTBB-FM and change programming from oldies music to news, talk and sports.

"For decades, FM meant music and AM meant talk. Not any more," said station owner Paul Gleiser, citing "iPod, and other fundamental changes in the way people use music."

In a prepared statement, Gleiser said, that although radio has traditionally been exempt from paying royalties, "the looming threat (is) that stations will soon be required to pay royalties to record labels. Now, record companies are lobbying Congress for radio stations to fund a business model, which the Internet download has made obsolete. This new expense would have been prohibitive even before the recession."

Sister station KTBB, AM 600 will continue to provide local news and national programming from Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity.

"Now, you'll be able to hear all three hours of Sean Hannity's show live," he said. "We've been interrupting Sean at 4PM for "Sports Talk with David Smoak," then re-playing Sean's final hour in the evening. Beginning April 27, we'll have both shows live," as Smoak's show moves to KTBB-FM 92.1 in its same 4-7PM time slot.

KTBB's news morning show and ABC News newscasts and Dallas Cowboys football games will be heard on KTBB-FM as well as Dr. Laura Schlessinger and The Dave Ramsey Show.

"While I regret ending my 19-year love affair with KDOK," Gleiser said, he looks forward to "delivering news and information and dialogue to the broader audience our FM station will help us reach. I know that our listeners and advertisers will be better served by this decision."
