The brainchild of 1090 programming "genius" Hal Brown, the show that started with Jordan and Earl/Earl and Jordan, then became Earl Milan and Ted Mendenhall after the foul-mouthed Jordan Smith was fired.

The Bleacher Bums were a disaster from the first hour they were on the air. But egos got in the way, and Brown refused to admit his mistake.

After Smith was fired, Brown even put himself on the show but disappeared after a week, not wanting to be part of the train wreck he created, we assume.

So now, when the Padres play at 7 p.m., the station actually has a decent afternoon lineup ---- Darren Smith from noon-2 p.m. and John Kentera from 2-4 p.m. Smith returns from 4-6 p.m. for the "BP Show" with Randy Jones and Dave Roberts. Kentera and Jack Cronin host the pregame show from 6-7 p.m., followed by the game.

What about when the Padres play at a time other than 7 p.m., you ask? Good question. I'm not sure Brown knows.

Certainly, Darren Smith and Kentera will be asked to fill the void. But Brown was also the man asked to build a bridge from December to the Padres.

The bridge he built was made of straw, and collapsed on him.
