FIRED DES MOINES SPORTSCASTER FINDS NEW JOB

(April 9, 2009) Larry Cotlar is back on Des Moines radio.
The sports talk personality and former host of KXNO’s morning drive-time show, “Cotlar & Company” will begin work Monday for KBGG-AM (1700), the new ESPN Radio affiliate known as “The Champ.” “I’ll be doing Iowa SportsCenter updates and other projects,” Cotlar said Wednesday. “(There’s) not anything firm beyond that.” Cotlar, a veteran of nearly two decades of broadcast experience in central Iowa, was fired on March 25 by Clear Channel, the parent company of KXNO, after a profanity-laced argument between himself and another 1460-AM personality, Marty Tirrell, was heard over-the-air. Since its launch last year, KBGG has been looking to expand its local programming, especially in the afternoon. But Cotlar said he couldn’t speculate as to whether or not the “Iowa SportsCenter” assignment could lead to a permanent afternoon drive slot. “We got the deal done (Wednesday) afternoon,” Cotlar said. “It will be nice to go back to work.” |
