D'AMBROSIO TO BROADCAST ROCK CATS BASEBALL
Press Release
(April 3, 2009) When the New Britain Rock Cats announced the establishment of a new media partnership with WTIC Radio last January they did so, in part, to strengthen both their broadcast signal and audio clarity. And now, as part of their new association with Connecticut's most powerful radio station, the Rock Cats announced they are also adding two of Connecticut's most popular and widely respected broadcasters - Joe D'Ambrosio and Scott Gray - to their 2009 Radio Broadcast Team!
With the central Connecticut franchise's 2009 Opening Day now just 5 days away, the Rock Cats are proud to announce that Mr. D'Ambrosio - a six-time Connecticut Sportscaster of the Year and, for the past 17 years, the high-energy voice of both the University of Connecticut's Football and Men's Basketball teams, and Mr. Gray - himself a six-time Connecticut Sportscaster of the Year who served as the voice of UConn's Women's Basketball for seven seasons and is currently the morning Sports Anchor at WTIC-AM - will join the Rock Cats Radio Broadcast team in 2009. The two highly decorated pros will be joining another - the Voice of the Rock Cats, Jeff Dooley - who enters his12th campaign describing all the action associated with New Britain's 142-game Eastern League Schedule. Entering their 37th consecutive season of play in the Nutmeg State, the Rock Cats are Connecticut's longest continuously-operating professional sports franchise. The 2009 Season will be the franchise's 15th year of their productive affiliation with the American League's Minnesota Twins. The broadcast partnership with WTIC AM and WTIC FM calls for the airing of all 2009 Rock Cats contests over the Farmington-based station's 96.5 WTIC FM's HD2 channel, with all the action being simultaneously streamed online at www.wtic.com. In addition to the High Definition carrier, 11 Rock Cats games* will be carried on the 50,000-watt AM powerhouse, WTIC-AM NewsTalk 1080. While Scott Gray will be reporting from the field level - interacting with Rock Cats Manager Tom Nieto and his players - Joe D'Ambrosio will serve as Jeff Dooley's color man in the Rock Cats radio booth, where he will add his enthusiastic perspective for most of the Cats' 2009 home games. The Rock Cats will open the new Season on the road at New Hampshire on Wednesday night, April 8th. They will return to New Britain Stadium for the 2009 Home Opener on Thursday, April 16th, when they will host the same Fisher Cats at 6:05 PM. Fans seeking to secure tickets for Opening Night - or any of the other 70 home games that will be played at New Britain in 2009 - can do so by visiting the Stadium Box Office (M-F, 10 AM to 6 PM; Sat 10 AM - 2 PM) or by calling the Rock Cats Ticket Office at (860) 224-8383. Fans interested in the convenience of ordering tickets online may do so by visiting the club's website at www.rockcats.com. In addition, all 142 of the Rock Cats games played in the 2009 Season will be broadcast by WMRD (AM-1150) in Middletown and WLIS (AM-1420) in Old Saybrook. |
