710 ESPN RADIO NAMES SPORTS "INSIDERS"
Press Release
(March 31, 2009) Bonneville Seattle Radio Group today announced the addition of “Sports Insiders” Art Thiel, Clare Farnsworth, Jim Moore, Dave Wyman and Bill Haselman to the weekly programming line-up for its new all-sports radio station, 710 ESPN Seattle, launching next Monday, April 6th, 2009. The “Sports Insiders” will provide exclusive insight and analysis on local and national sports and will be heard on “The Kevin Calabro Show,” weekdays, 3pm-6pm.
A Puget Sound lifer, Art Thiel worked at newspapers in Tacoma and Bellevue before joining the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in 1980. He began his award-winning column in 1987, covering numerous Olympics, Super Bowls, World Series and more Sonics trials (one) than he cares to talk about. Thiel co-hosted a sports talk show on KIRO-AM from 1995-97. A proud member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee, Clare Farnsworth has been a Seahawks beat writer for 30 years, and during that time he has covered every playoff game in franchise history as well as 15 Super Bowls. He covered the Seahawks for the Fournier Newspapers (1979-82) and Bellevue Journal-American (1982-87) before moving to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, where worked from September 1987 until the paper published for the final time on March 17th, 2009. Because of his unprecedented tenure, he has covered most of the significant developments in Seahawks history. In addition to his work at the P-I, Farnsworth also has been a correspondent for Sports Illustrated, the Sporting News, Pro Football Weekly and USA Today and also has done regular radio spots with stations in Seattle, Portland, Spokane and Vancouver, B.C. Jim Moore is a sports columnist and a proud graduate of Washington State University. To this day, he maintains that the best four years of his life were spent in Pullman. Moore started his career in 1979 as the sports editor at the Ketchikan Daily News in Alaska, then the Anchorage Daily News in 1982. He joined the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in 1983, covering the Seattle SuperSonics as a P-I beat writer from 1989-96. Loves to write about golf and has been to Augusta five times to cover The Masters. For the past five years, David Wyman has been a part of the Seahawks pre and post game broadcast team on KIRO-AM and KIRO-FM. Wyman, a former NFL linebacker, was a second round draft choice of the Seattle Seahawks in 1987 and started for the Seahawks before signing a free-agent contract with the Denver Broncos in 1993. He finished his nine year career with the Denver Broncos. Bill Haselman, a 13-season former Major League Baseball, played for the Rangers, Red Sox, Tigers and Mariners. He was the catcher in Roger Clemens's 20 strikeout game against the Detroit Tigers in 1996. He served as the first base coach for the Boston Red Sox in 2006. Before taking over the role of first base coach, Haselman served as bullpen coach. Haselman was a NCAA Division 1 quarterback at UCLA. The new 710 ESPN Seattle will feature radio play-by-play and comprehensive coverage of the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners. 710 ESPN Seattle will broadcast a line-up of local, Seattle-based sports news and sports talk programs, along with selected nationally-syndicated programs from ESPN Radio Network.
