(March 27, 2009) Judd Sirott's life is about to become a lot busier. The Blackhawks' pregame, intermission and postgame radio host on WGN-AM 720 has landed hosting and play-by-play duties with the Cubs.
Sirott will host the Cubs' pregame and postgame shows and will also assist Pat Hughes and Ron Santo in the booth, including doing play-by-play during fifth innings. "I'm ecstatic and I'm humbled at the same time," Sirott said of joining the Cubs. "I understand the opportunity that's there, the people I've followed and what this is about. "I've just been very fortunate. I could not have done this without the support of the Blackhawks, in particular John McDonough and Jay Blunk. They've been in my corner the entire time." As the schedule allows, Sirott will continue to do both jobs. Sirott's final regular-season Hawks game will be April 1 and Jim Memelo will fill in when Sirott is with the Cubs. "I don't want to loosen my toehold one inch from this organization," Sirott said. "As I told John and Jay, I think really good things are happening for this team not only right now but I can see where this organization is going is going and you can see what's and I want to be here for that. As much as humanly possible and as schedules work out, I'm going to do both." Sirott, who was the Wolves' play-by-play announcer from 1994-2006, grew up a Cubs fan in Buffalo Grove. "I had a chance to go [to Arizona] and do a couple of exhibition games and Pat and Ron could not have been more accomodating and more helpful," Sirott said. "I can not wait to get a chance to do these games. If I could marry my two favorites sports, this is it." |
