KBGG (AM-1700) is launching its first local sports talk program today, days after it was announced sports radio rival KXNO had fired personalities Marty Tirrell, Larry Cotlar and Geoff Conn.

Terry Peters, vice president/market manager of Citadel Broadcasting, said “Out of Bounds” is starting today, hosted by KCCI (TV-8) sports director Andy Garman and Steve “Round Guy” Pilchen.

The show will air from noon to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, but is likely to be expanded, Peters said.

Tirrell and Cotlar — the driving forces behind former KXNO programs “Marty and Miller” and “Cotlar & Co.” — were fired after a profane, on-air exchange last Friday.

During the tirade, Tirrell was heard using the “f-word” at least a dozen times.

Peters confirmed he’s talked with Cotlar about possible employment as the station considers expanding local sports programming, though it’s too soon to know if something would materialize.

Tirrell, however, is unlikely to work at the station, Peters indicated.
