EAGLE HOSTING SPORTSCASTING CAMP
(March 17, 2009) High school and college students will have a unique opportunity to learn about sports broadcasting when WNBC-TV's Bruce Beck and New Jersey Nets and CBS Sports announcer Ian Eagle conduct their eighth annual Sports Broadcasting Camp from July 27-31 at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center on the campus of Montclair State University.

Baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra will lead a distinguished list of camp speakers. Berra annually answers camper questions during a mock press conference. Other past speakers include New York Rangers play-by-play voice Sam Rosen, Fox Sports' Kenny Albert, New Jersey Nets radio voice Chris Carrino, SNY's Chris Carlin and Kevin Burkhart, and New Jersey Devils radio voice Matt Loughlin.

Beck and Eagle will also conduct an "advanced" camp that same week for returning campers and headed by MSG Network broadcaster Mike Quick.

The Bruce Beck & Ian Eagle Sports Broadcasting Camp will allow students, male and female, 13-and-older, to learn about game preparation, writing and interviewing skills, stand-up techniques, the differences between radio and television calls and on-air presentation.

Lectures, daily visits from big name New York-area broadcasters and practice assignments lead up to the final assignment of calling a Somerset Patriots minor-league baseball game.

Beck, recently nominated for an Emmy Award as the area's top sports anchor, has served as the weekend sports host and weekday sports reporter at WNBC-TV since 1997. He also hosts the Rutgers University football and basketball coaches shows.

Eagle has spent the last 14 seasons as a New Jersey Nets television voice. He also works for CBS Sports on its coverage of the NFL, the Army-Navy football game and college basketball along with hosting sports talk shows on Sirius Satellite Radio.

The camp is limited to 60 campers who are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $695.
