LEARFIELD GETS BOISE STATE ATHLETICS

(March 5, 2009) On Thursday the Boise State athletic department is expected to announce a new and lucrative deal that will affect Bronco games on radio and tv as well as perhaps Bronco Stadium itself.
After a two-month long bid process, BSU will award the broadcast rights for Broncos sports to Learfield Communications. As part of the deal, Learfield also gets marketing opportunities and signage within the stadium. If Learfield sounds familiar to sports fans - it should. They are the company that produces Idaho Vandal games for television and radio in the valley. An interesting note in all of this is that Learfield also has the opportunity to sell the naming rights to Bronco Stadium which could bring in even more money to the university if they can find a sponsor for "the blue." Just how much money Learfield is paying for the rights will be a mystery until the ink is dry, but sources say it could be near $3 million per year. This does not necessarily mean the Broncos will be switching dial positions any time soon although they could. Learfield can now place the games on any station they choose starting next year. |
