MCGINN NEW P-NATS BASEBALL SPORTSCASTER
Press Release
(March 3, 2009) The Potomac Nationals have announced that Dan McGinn has been named Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations and will serve as the new "Voice of the P-Nats." He replaces Anthony Oppermann who is leaving his post as Assistant General Manager, Marketing and Media to be the lead play-by-play voice of the Reading Phillies.
McGinn spent last season as a Media Relations Assistant with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Massachusetts native handled all in-game media requests, provided statistical and game information, and managed the press facilities at Coca-Cola Park. Prior to his time with the IronPigs, the Temple University graduate spent 2006 as the Director of Broadcasting and lead play-by-play voice of the River City Rascals of the Independent Frontier League. The 27-year-old broke into professional baseball in 2004 with the Evansville Otters, also of the Frontier League, where he spent two seasons. "We are thrilled to have someone with Dan's experience and skills join the Potomac Nationals," said General Manger Jonathan Griffith. "He will be a great asset to our staff which is one of the most experienced and talented that we've ever had here." In addition to calling all 140 games on www.potomacnationals.com, McGinn will handle all media relations as well as serve as the chief editor and graphic designer for all of the P-Nats' print publications including the club's Gameday Magazine. Oppermann, who joined Potomac's front office in 2007 as the team's Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations, spent each of the past two seasons as the "Voice of the P-Nats." The TCU alum was promoted to Assistant General Manager, Marketing and Media following his inaugural campaign with the club. During his tenure, the La Grange, Texas, native was instrumental in the launch of the P-Nats' new website with Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) as well as designing all of Potomac's print publications and marketing materials. The 26-year-old also coordinated all media requests and the P-Nats' community outreach programs with local schools. "This a bittersweet moment for me because I have been very fortunate to have had the role I did in Potomac," said Oppermann. "I enjoyed my time with the P-Nats and am so grateful to the organization and its fans for all of their support. With that said, I got into this business to be a broadcaster and do it at the highest level possible. This is another step in that direction, and while I know I still have work to do in order to reach that goal, I'm excited about all of the possibilities in Reading with the R-Phils." Oppermann will remain with the Potomac Nationals through the beginning of April. |
