HUNDREDS TURN OUT TO HONOR SPORTSCASTER KELLAS
(February 24, 2009) Hundreds of family, friends and fans turned out to pay their finals repsects for one of the Ohio Valley's most beloved broadcasters George Kellas.

Kellas was a radio host in Wheeling, West Virginia at 1170 WWVA and AM 1600 WKKX. He was also sportscaster at WTRF 7 for ten years, between 1984 and 1994.

People packed the Greek Orthodox Church on Chapline Street for a service the lasted a little over an hour.

Friends and family spoke about Kellas and their relationships with him.

Kellas's 13-year old son George spoke about his father's life, his days on television and radio, and the book his father wrote. Paula Thomas, a cousin of Kellas, spoke about his life. As did Dave Mathieu, who knew George for a long time and spoke about the good 'ole day of playing softball with Kellas and hanging out.

Kellas died of cancer at his home in Wheeling in the late hours of Thursday, February 19th, just six days after his 53rd birthday.

He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling.
