SPORTSCASTER BOB RAMSEY HONORED
Press Release
(February 20, 2009) 101 ESPN announced that Bob Ramsey, co-host of “The Fast Lane” and an award-winning sports radio broadcaster, was recently inducted into the 2008 class of the Saint Louis University “Billiken Hall of Fame”. The induction ceremony took place on January 16, 2009 at the Busch Student Center on the University campus. The 11 individuals in the 2009 class, including Ramsey, were also recognized at a half-time ceremony at the January 17, 2009 SLU men’s basketball game against George Washington at the Chaifetz Arena.
Ramsey received the “Bauman Sportsmanship Award”, along with Msgr. Louis F. Meyer. He has been involved with SLU athletics for more than 20 years. Serving as the “Voice of the Billikens” and the play-by-play man for Billikens men’s basketball games, Bob has also called numerous women’s basketball games, men’s and women’s soccer games and volleyball matches for Charter Communications as well. A highly-respected veteran in the St. Louis sports media scene, Ramsey has worked in the St. Louis market for 23 years. His experience ranges from the local to the national level in both radio and television; including the 1998 season when he called the play-by-play for the St. Louis Cardinals on 1120 KMOX radio. Recalling the recent induction ceremony, Bob comments, “I have to thank The Billikens Club for this humbling recognition and Saint Louis University for the honor of serving as voice of the Billikens.” Ramsey continues, “It’s been 23 of the best years of my life…and I would give anything for 23 more.” The Billiken Hall of Fame, which is sponsored by The Billiken Club, inducted its initial class in 1976. Since then more than 240 student-athletes, teams and dignitaries have been selected for the Billiken Hall of Fame. The Billiken Club, founded in 1991, is a comprehensive booster organization for SLU athletics. Vice President and Market Manager John Kijowski notes, “Bob Ramsey and SLU Billiken basketball have been synonymous with excellence in college sports broadcasting in St. Louis. Kijowski continues, “He is now a recognized icon in St. Louis sports radio, and we couldn’t be more pleased that Saint Louis University and The Billikens Club decided to honor Bob’s contributions to the legacy of Billiken athletics.” Jason Barrett, Program Director for 101 ESPN adds, “Bob Ramsey’s passion and dedication to Billikens basketball is evident in every broadcast he does and I am very proud to have him and Saint Louis University on our roster. This is a tremendous achievement and one that I believe is very well deserved.” |
