ROCK CATS BASEBALL RADIO GOES HD
Press Release
(February 2, 2009) The New Britain Rock Cats, Connecticut’s oldest continuously-operating professional sports franchise, announced today a new partnership with WTIC AM and WTIC FM to broadcast all 142-games in the 2009 Season. Effective
immediately, the Eastern League club’s games will air on 96.5 WTIC FM’s HD2 channel and will be streamed online at www.wtic.com. Ten games will be carried live on the 50,000-watt powerhouse, WTIC NewsTalk 1080. High Definition (HD) radio transmissions, in brief, utilize digital signals rather than conventional analog output. While all radio signals inevitably encounter objects in their pathways, HD digital radio receivers are designed to sort through such reflected signals, filtering out static while markedly extending the HD signal’s reach. Accordingly, this conversion should serve to deliver a clearer Rock Cats audio broadcast while also expanding the listening territory, enabling such broadcasts to reach more fans. Suzanne McDonald, CBS Radio’s Hartford Senior Vice President/Market Manager, stated “As live, local programming is the centerpiece of our broadcasting philosophy, we are very excited to be adding the Rock Cats to a dynamic lineup that already includes the Red Sox and UConn Football and Basketball”. Rock Cats President and CEO Bill Dowling said: “We are delighted to be joining WTIC Radio’s highly-regarded broadcast family and implementing state-of-the art technical upgrades that provide our fans with enhanced audio quality and an expanded listening range. It looks to be a ‘win-win’ for all involved and we can’t wait to get started”. In addition, the Rock Cats have recently added both WMRD-AM (Middletown/New Britain) and WLIS-AM (Old Saybrook) to their Radio Network. Jeff Dooley, the Rock Cats Director of Broadcasting, will return to the booth in 2009 for his 12th season as “Voice of the Rock Cats”. Dooley will host both pre-and post-game shows for all 142 Rock Cats games in 2009. |
