(January 27, 2009) The A's and Ken Korach reached a two-year agreement Tuesday to keep the longtime broadcaster as the voice of the team through the 2011 season.

Korach, who is Oakland's lead radio play-by-play voice on KTRB 860 AM and the entire A's radio network, enters his 14th season with the organization and his fourth as the team's lead play-by-play announcer.

"We are pleased to finalize this new agreement with Ken, as we consider him a tremendous asset to our organization," A's vice president of broadcasting and communications Ken Pries said in a statement. "When it comes to providing game description and special insights, Bay Area sports fans will tell you that Ken has few peers. He's a pro's pro, and we feel fortunate that our relationship with Ken will continue for at least the next three years."

Before joining the A's in 1996, Korach was a part of the White Sox's broadcasting team from 1992-95, and he handled broadcasting duties for the Triple-A Las Vegas Stars from 1989-91.

In addition, he has 22 years of experience broadcasting other sports such as college basketball and college football.

With the A's, Korach also established "Korach's Winning for the Community" program in 2008, raising more than $27,000 for Oakland Athletic League high school baseball programs to fund equipment, uniforms and field maintenance.

"I am thrilled to continue with the A's," Korach said in a statement released by the team. "It means so much that the club has shown this kind of confidence in me. I consider it an honor to call their games, considering the Athletics have such a storied history with broadcasters, including some of the all-time greats like Bill [King] and Lon [Simmons]."
