CLEAR CHANNEL AXES SAN DIEGO SPORTS STAFF

(January 20, 2009) When STAA received a call early this morning about a sportscaster being layed-off at XTRA Sports 1360 in San Diego, the assumption was that it was only the tip of the iceberg. The assumption was correct. It appears that Clear Channel will eventually drop the all-sports format in America's Finest City. Clear Channel has laid off more than one dozen on and off-air employees in San Diego as part of nation-wide cuts. Among the casualites is the entire on-air staff at XTRA Sports 1360. Included are Mike Costa, Jeff Dotseth, Chris Ello, Craig Elston and Matt Gulbransen. Starting today, the station began exclusively airing Fox Sports Radio programing. XTRA Sports 1360 again didn't place in the most recent Arbitron ratings that went down to 0.4. The North County Times reported on January 16th that management at 1360 was "devastated." |
