SALINA, KS GETS SPORTS RADIO STATION
Press Release
(January 14, 2009) Rocking M Radio-Salina is launching the Salina area’s first All-Sports talk radio station on the FM dial, with programming from national network, Sporting News Radio, beginning Thursday, January 15th.
“We looked very carefully at the market and found that there was a large audience of sports fans that we not being given the chance to listen to what they are passionate about….sports.” stated Christopher Miller, VP of Rocking M Radio, a Kansas-based broadcasting company. “With a solid balance of local and national sports talk and play-by-play programming, we feel that anyone who loves sports, will love 92.7 The Fan.” “Our plan is to supply North Central Kansas with a full-time outlet for sports programming,” according to Danny Havel, General Manager of the Rocking M stations in Salina. “It’s a bold move…no one has ever tried an All Sports format, or to put talk programming on the FM dial in Salina…but we really don’t feel like we’re taking a chance…we think the market is ready for this move.” Havel, a 30-year veteran of radio who has worked with the Oregon Ducks and is currently a part of the broadcast team for K-State football, will host the only local 3-hour talk show called “The Boneyard” and will invite listeners to join in with their opinions and comments. “We’ll have fun,” says Havel. “I have a lot of contacts in the sports world throughout Kansas and the country and I already have commitments from a wide range of people to be guests. We’ll also have contests for our listeners to interact with us…it’ll be a fast-paced 3 hours.” The new Fan 92.7 will also feature local play-by-play, Bob Costas features and his 2-hour weekend show, college and Professional sports, plus some suprises. “We’re working on some things that we are not able to announce yet…but we’ll be able to make some pretty big changes very soon.” Havel says. “The marketplace needs something like this…and we’re excited to get started.” The Fan, 92.7 FM, kicks off the new format with a show and party ay O’Malleys in the Holiday inn, Thursday afternoon beginning at 3pm. Food and beverage specials, and prizes will be a part of the celebration. |
