POTESTA TO CALL CURVE BASEBALL, HARRIS TO D-JAXX

(January 8, 2009) Minor league baseball fans will hear a different voice this spring when the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx hit the field for the 2009 season.

That is because Ron Potesta, who has been the voice of the Jaxx for the past six seasons, announced last week that he would be leaving the organization after being offered the same position with the Altoona, Pa. Curve, now owned by former Jaxx owner Robert Lozinak.

"Ron let us know last week that he was taking the job, and it's a good opportunity for him," said Jaxx general manager Tom Hanson. "But we have a good person ready to take over the reins of the job this year."

That would be Chris Harris, who will be stepping down at his position of host of the Bottom Line, an afternoon sports talk show on 96.5 WBFG FM.

"This is an opportunity that I've dreamed of for a long time," Harris said. "I've always wanted to do play-by-play baseball, and to do it just down the road here in West Tennessee makes it even better."

Along with his work on weekdays in the afternoons in West Tennessee, Harris is known for his Friday night football scoreboard show - also on 96.5 - along with being the voice of Bethel football and basketball. He also works with the TSSAA in broadcasting state championship games.

Harris said it looks like he should be able to carry on with most of his other work with little interference with working with the Jaxx.

"I'm still going to be working with Bethel in football and basketball, although there might be some conflicts in early September when football's getting started and the Southern League playoffs are going on," Harris said. "And the Jaxx are kind enough to be willing to let me continue to broadcast state championship basketball in March and the Blue Cross Bowl in December. But I won't be able to work with Spring Fling in May."

Harris said the football scoreboard show is still a possibility, but nothing is certain at this point.

As manager of media relations and broadcasting, Harris will be doing the radio broadcasts and working with local media throughout the Southern League in conjunction with the Jaxx.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity of getting to live the life of Double-A Minor League Baseball," Harris said. "There will be new challenges and learning experiences for me, but it's going to be fun.

"I've already got good relationships with a lot of the people in the organization, and I can't wait to get started."

Harris will begin working with the Jaxx on Jan. 26 with the final broadcast of the Bottom Line coming on Jan. 30.
