ROBINSON TO BROADCAST 49ERS FOOTBALL ON RADIO
(January 5, 2009) The 49ers now know who will be calling the plays — at least from the broadcast booth.

Ted Robinson was announced this morning as the team's next radio play-by-play man. Robinson, a well-known voice in the Bay Area, follows in the footsteps of Bob Fouts, Lon Simmons, Don Klein and the recently retired Joe Starkey.

He has a wealth of experience at every level of broadcasting and is highly respected amongst his peers and sports fans throughout Northern California,'' 49ers Chief Operating Officer Andy Dolich said in a statement released by the team.

Robinson, 51, spent nine seasons doing radio and TV broadcasts for the 49ers. He has also broadcast games for the A's, Warriors and the Stanford football team.

Robinson has 49ers experience, too. In 1983, he served as the third member of the radio team with Klein and Don Heinrich. His other highlights included the locker room coverage after the 1985 Super Bowl victory.

"I am sincerely honored to be added to the short but esteemed list of distinguished announcers who played a role in bringing the 49ers accomplishments on the field to life,'' Robinson said in a statement.

Born in Queens, N.Y., Robinson went on to the University of Notre Dame (the same alma mater as Jed York).

Robinson has distinguished himself nationally as the play-by-play man at the Olympics (three Winter, three Summer). He might be best known for his work in tennis, where he has been the lead announcer for NBC's coverage of the French Open and Wimbledon, a position that he took over in 2000 after Dick Enberg left for CBS.
