The Major League Soccer expansion team announced Monday that all of its home and road games will be shown live on KONG-6/16 or Channel 5, except for those broadcast nationally.Each broadcast will include pregame and postgame shows, and stations will also produce a weekly Sounders FC show.

“I’m thrilled to be part of Sounders FC in a city that I know will embrace it,” Calabro said.

Terms of the multiyear deal were not announced.

The Sounders had said one of their highest priorities in a broadcast partner was a consistent home where their games wouldn’t be bumped or delayed due to coverage of other local teams. This deal seems to have achieved that.

And the area’s newest pro franchise may have achieved even more by linking with one of the region’s most popular broadcast personalities.

Calabro was voice of the Sonics for 21 seasons and also has been a play-by-play contributor for TNT, TBS and ESPN Radio broadcasts of the NBA. He was named Washington sportscaster of the year in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association of America.
