EX-NESN TALENT MAE MIGHT STAY IN BOSTON

Boston Herald
(July 16, 2008) Hazel Mae threw a goodbye to Boston party for herself the other night, but word is, the departed NESN fun gal may not be going very far. We hear Hazel, who left the Red Sox station after four years on the “SportsDesk,” was in talks with Channel 4, which is still down a body in its sports department since the departure of Bob Lobel. WBZ reportedly was looking to install Haze as weekend sports anchor, replacing Steve Burton, who inherited Lobel’s top spot. But Mae, we’re told, couldn’t come to terms on a salary number. And she reportedly wanted the top job - a gig the ’BZ suits weren’t offering. But when someone asked Hazel at Josh Beckett's fund-raiser the other night if she was moving to Channel 4, she answered with a wink. For whatever that’s worth . . . Hazel, who departed NESN at the beginning of the month, has said she has no new gig lined up. However, she is technically under contract to the Sox station until August and can’t sign anywhere until after then. Other possible landing spots for the ever-popular jock talker include FOX25, which loves a pretty face, and the ever-expanding weei.com, which is incorporating a video component. “Something’s going on since she’s hanging around town,” said a source. “She must have a job in the area. Why stay if you don’t?” Meanwhile, we hear that Heidi Watney, who took over for Hazel’s ex-colleague and station BFF Tina Cervasio, is not getting rave reviews from the Sox brass. As always, do stay tuned . . . |
