MCCABE CHOSEN TO CALL EMERALDS BASEBALL
Press Release
(February 5, 2008) The Eugene Emeralds today announced the hiring of Matt McCabe as the team’s new play-by-play announcer for the 2008 season. McCabe, 22, replaces Russ Eisenstein who left the organization in August to take a similar position with Idaho State University.

McCabe comes to Eugene from Binghamton, NY where he was a broadcast intern for the Double-A Mets of the Eastern League. With the B-Mets, McCabe helped with play-by-play and color commentary on all 140 game broadcasts. In addition, McCabe assisted with the Mets media relations duties at home and on the road.

A 2008 graduate of Rice University with a degree in kinesiology and sports management, McCabe has been the play-by-play voice of the Owls baseball program since the 2005 season. With the Owls, McCabe traveled with the club to the College World Series in Omaha following the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

Currently, McCabe is the play-by-play voice for Houston Baptist University women’s basketball. In the fall, McCabe hosted a high school football sports talk show on Houston’s ESPN Radio affiliate giving real-time scores and conducting interviews with area coaches and players.

McCabe becomes the franchises 13th broadcaster since 1983. Notable Emeralds play-by-play announcers include current Oregon State University football and men’s basketball announcer Mike Parker (1983-86), along with former San Francisco Giants announcers Dave Glass (1987-88) and Dennis Higgins (1993-94, 2003-04).

Once again, all 76 Emeralds games, home and away, will be carried live on KPNW-AM 1120 in Eugene/Springfield.
